What I Discovered in Florence About My Energy

Have I ever said that I love traveling? šŸ˜

This trip to Florence was incredible for several reasons.

I saw a lot of art, many beautiful and wonderful things. I think I went into every church I passed, I went to countless museums and got lost and enchanted by numerous works of art. Florence washes the eyes, the soul, and the stomach šŸ«£šŸ˜…

Italy is truly incredible!

But, on a more personal level, this trip also made me understand something else about my body.

For many years I had extremely low iron levels. This symptom was seen and dismissed by several doctors, until one listened to me and prescribed intravenous iron, at the end of last year. It took a few months to take effect and I hadn’t even noticed the difference... until I got here.

I walked so much in Florence to the point that my body was already so tired that it was only asking me for rest. The difference is that, in that moment, I felt the physical pain, but I was still full of energy. This had never happened to me before! Other times when I walked a lot, the only thing I wanted was to get to my room and stay hidden under the covers, isolated and still, because there was no energy left.

And since then I’ve been noticing that it wasn’t just something from the trip; it’s really my body that is different, my energy levels are completely different. Before, I thought certain things were laziness and now I realize they were a lack of iron.

So, I leave you with an invitation: check your iron levels, insist with your doctors. I spent years knowing I had low iron until one doctor listened to me and changed everything. If I had known what I know today — the impact this has on our presence — I would have been much more persistent.

We have to be our own greatest allies! Have you ever felt that your ā€œtirednessā€ was, in fact, something deeper that needed to be seen? 🌿
